The decorated car, registration SP 708, belonged to local builder Walter Horne. This was the first car to cross the new bridge after the cutting of a red, white and blue ribbon with a pair of silver scissors. Flags and bunting can be seen hanging around the bridge. The buildings in the background from left to right are The Railway Inn (light-coloured gable end), Alexandra House (centre), Edina View (3-storey terrace with former windows and many chimneys) and the Crusoe Hotel (extreme right).
