People had flocked to Lower Largo Beach on this particular summer's day. With more than a dozen people fully submerged in the sea, and many more contemplating it at the edge (with swimming caps and towels), this looks like a fine warm day. The boats are attracting the attention of some boys, four ladies are enjoying a stroll on the sand and many are sheltering along the sea wall. Someone has put up a tent in the garden - perhaps to accommodate summer guests. The sender of this particular postcard was also fortunate with the weather, writing "having a lovely time, weather grand. It would do you both good to be here." The postcard was sent in the early 1950s though the image may be many years earlier. See below for finer detail from the scene.

Can anyone identify the very tall whip-like masts in gardens, the tall posts along the road towards the temple, which are much taller than telegraph poles and the enormous board facing out to sea?

I think I can answer one of my own questions. Once magnified, what I thought was a huge board, is an optical illusion made by the nearest of the tall posts and houses at a distance behind it.
