As you may know, the Old Manor Hotel in Lundin Links was once known as the Beach Hotel (a name it shared with its sister hotel in Leven between 1947 and 1980). The adverts for Christmas and New Year meals below date from 1959 (upper picture) and 1961. The extensive schedule of festive meals and dinner dances suggests this was a time when going out for a "carefree" celebration avoiding the effort of entertaining at home was popular. Of course, Christmas and New Year celebrations are still hosted at the hotel today, more than 50 years later. I wonder what the Misses Rigg, who had the hotel built as their house 150 years ago, would make of the place today. I think they would have approved of the hospitality on offer in their former home, as these ladies were known for hosting an annual Christmas Treat for local children in the Lundin School Room. More on these "soirees" in the next post.
