On 28 May 1903, a further tragedy occurred when Mrs Cooper was found drowned in her bath at home in Lower Largo. The Courier reported her death the next day, when it was assumed that she had been seized by a fit. The report noted that she would be greatly missed in the district and that she left a young family. She was survived by her 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter. The children went to live with an aunt and uncle in Leith who had seven children of their own, two of which shared forenames with their orphaned cousins.
In 1892, Thomas Cooper of Kirkcaldy applied for a grocer's (porter and ale) license for premises in Lower Largo. He was unanimously granted a certificate and in 1897 the above advert was run to promote his business. However, much sadness was to come for this family business. In January 1898, Thomas Cooper died of meningitis and the grocery business was taken over by his wife Helen.

My Great Grandfather was David Smith Urquhart who also had a Grocers shop in Largo at about the same time. His father John Urquhart farmed Pitcruvie in the 1880's and 90's with one of his other sons Walter Henderson Urquhart. John died at Pitcruvie Farmhouse in 1897. Davids first wife ( Agnes Wilson Laing ), we believe, died in childbirth with the name of his second wife being passed down the family line as 'Mrs Walker' from Edinburgh with whom he had no children; and he himself died in 1901 from what we believe to have been meningitis. My Grandfather Alexander Urquhart was one of Davids sons and survived WW1 being awarded the MM. He had a cobblers shop in Sinclairtown Kirkcaldy being known to all as Sandy Urquhart.

As an Update Agnes Wilson Urquhart actually died of Measles we understand. She was the daughter of Alexander Laing the farmer at Blackwells Farm Kilrenny near Anstruther. I understand that the farmhouse remained in the family line until 2015 when it was sold.
