In an elevated position with a southern exposure, above the first tee and last green of the Lundin Golf Course, with views beyond across the Forth, it's easy to see why this section of the street became popular. Several boarding houses were soon to be built here. However, it would be decades before all the 'gaps' were filled and the street became the interesting mix of building styles we know now.
Today it's difficult to determine the relative ages of the various buildings along the stretch of Links Road between Golf Road and Victoria Road. Back in the late 19th century 'Westhall' stood alone on this part of the road (then known as Station Road). Westhall is in the foreground of the above image, with a stone wall marking out the perimeter of its grounds. The trees planted along the sloping walls still look quite young. In the background on the left are the villas of Victoria Road, while in the background right (set further back) are some of the Crescent Road villas and the school. At the far right, behind the club house, is Norvil (obscured in the present day view by the Victoria flats).
