During World War Two a pair of concrete gun emplacements were built on on the sea wall adjacent to Lundin Links Golf Course. These small fortified structures were also known as 'pillboxes' due to their shape. Built as part of a programme of anti-invasion preparation, these were built at strategic points along the coast, as well as other measures such as anti-tank blocks and anti-glider poles. In May 1940, the directorate of Fortifications and Works had been set up at the War Office and such defences were designed and built over the following year or so. Inside, these buildings were cramped and basic.

I remember the gun emplacements, but I think I remember tank traps too - along the golf course stretch of beach. It may be my memory playing tricks - it was, after all, a very long time ago! Perhaps someone can enlighten?

Brought up 100m from the beach and the blockhouses. Used to play around them. Concrete tank traps either side of the First Burn - used to leap along them. Beach also has remains of glider poles (not to be confused with remains of salmon stake net poles. Used to be air raid shelter in the 'woods' opposite the Post Office and the Lundin Links Hotel. Also used to be remains of Home Guard road block above the Durham Hall - rusting oil drums on either side of the road.
