Railway Bridge at Masseney Braes

While most of the railway from Leven, through Lundin Links to Largo, and beyond passed over flat "benty" links alongside the seashore, a little more
engineering was required in order to navigate through the villages.
The black and white postcard above shows the intersection between the rail line at Masseney Braes and the road junction of Emsdorf Road and Drummochy Road.

You can still see remains of this bridge today, as the photo to the right (taken this Summer) shows.

Is there any information on the derivation or origin of the name, Masseney? I'd never seen it written down before and seeing it here revived it in my aural memory. In the summers of the1950s, my grandfather used to go to a little, south facing and hidden nook, sit on his canvas picnic chair and read his book. You always knew where to find him. That nook is completely overgrown now. My olfactory memory comes into play too when thinking about it. The ozone mixed with the very clear scent of dog roses. I wish someone could tell me why, after what must have been many, many generations, that whole dune area of scrubby grass, sand and briars has become a lush planting of bracken and sycamores. It is unrecognisable compared to the 50/ 60s landscape. Why didn't it happen before?
