After a few years, the establishment received another change of brand and was renamed 'The Admiral's Bell', in another reference to Sir Andrew Wood. However, in the mid-1980s the building closed for good. After demolition, the plot was a gap site briefly (see lower image) before eventually being filled by the flats which stand there today - thus returning the site to its original residential use (cottages had been there prior to the building of La Scala in 1920).
By September 1972 (when the above advert appeared in the local press), the building which previously hosted La Scala cinema and the Yellow Carvel venue, was re-branded as 'Seaway Restaurant'. As the advertisement shows, food was on offer all day, from morning coffee through to dinner. Staying true to the venue's dance hall roots, the proprietor still encouraged functions, parties and wedding receptions. If you remember attending a function there or going in for a meal, please comment.

My parents owned the Seaway restaurant when I was a young girl...I think the advert shown was one of theirs! I have lovely memories of it and have photos as a child, proudly standing on the front steps - I’m so sad to hear it’s no longer there!
